Yes, you should have, at least, a Haynes or Chilton's guide. A factory technical manual is preferable, but those other guides are good for at least this much. I personally prefer to have both, with the technical manual on CD for the convenience of being able to search for things.

Also, if you plan on doing more work (I certainly promote DIY work when it comes to DSM's), I suggest investing in a Pocket Logger (www.pocketlogger.com) or at least one of the cheap knock-offs. It's nice to have when diagnosing and making repairs and definitely a must-have when you start modifying.

Most DSM forums are friendly to newcomers, unless you're a ricer. In which case, sell your DSM and go to hell! Seriously though, I would suggest that you join one, if not several. In addition to DSMtalk as mentioned there's also DSMtuners.com and TeamNABR.com among others. Tuners is a well moderated newbie friendly community and nearly every DSM question that has been asked and answered is there for anyone who is willing to search for it. For the very technically minded there's also Team NABR who have absolutely no problem flaming newbies or anyone who asks questions which have been already answered. However, you'll find people there who know just about everything about everything when it comes to DSM's, no matter how technical.

Do what you can to keep her lookin' and runnin' like new, and before you know it, you'll just be itchin' to build a 600 AWHP motor.
