I am extremely disappointed in the Braun Triumph 9000. I purchased it on 3/04/2006 and now the battery will not charge. I followed the care instructions and did a discharge every 6 months hoping that the battery would last a little longer but it still will not charge correctly. I called Braun customer service and explained the problem and was told the handle is no longer good. they said they only last about 5 years. Perhaps Braun should advise the consumer that the unit is going to be disposed of in 5 years. I was offered a $10 dollar coupon or a replacement handle that would cost $60. It is very frustrating to have to purchase another handle when the whole unit costs about $100.(Sam's club) I have to really think about purchasing another Braun brush verses another similar product by another manufacturer. Perhaps I will get more than 5 years out of another company.

My Favorite Toothbrush

This is an excellent product, in my opinion. Here are some of my notes:

1. I have used my Oral-B Triumph Professional Care 9400 Power Toothbrush for about a year without any problems.
2. The toothbrush digitally indicates when it needs charging.
3. The charge is relatively long-lasting. (I have noticed that my battery indicator will blink when it is low and will continue to blink once plugged in although it is charging at this point).
4. The base station has a small footprint, with a place to store the toothbrush heads.
5. The portable charger takes up little space, and is especially useful for travel.
6. The toothbrush indicates a smiley face at the end of your two-minute clean.
7. It will also show a toothbrush head when it is time to change to a new head.
8. The toothbrush promotes two-minute cleans, 30 seconds for each quarter of the mouth. The toothbrush pulses and indicates a change when it's time to switch position in the mouth.

I have no problems at my dentist visits, and I know that I am doing a great job with this toothbrush. I now use this toothbrush with the Waterpik Ultra Dental Water Jet for an exceptional clean.

This is a great product -
I am using Braun electric toothbrushes since over 30 years - I am always happy with them - but the 9000 series beats everything!

Nice Toothbrush - An upgrrade from my previous Oral B Braun

I had purchased an Oral B Braun toothbrush 5 years ago. I liked it, but it was time for an upgrade.
I noticed a huge improvement right away. You can't go wrong with this one. I like the idea of the option to
use the compact version of the charger.

Worth 5 stars if it was easy to replace the battery

This is an excellent toothbrush it does a great job. However the NiMH rechargeable battery died after 3 years. And yes you can replace it if you have a soldering iron, a small screw driver and are very carefull.

HERE IS HOW...
First you have to remove the bottom cap by unscrewing the center socket; the charger/plug has a triangular "key" for that purpose. Turn the center socket counter clock wise and remove the bottom cap.
- Look inside from the bottom and press the two white clips away from the sidewall from each side with a small screw driver until you hear a click.
- Insert the opposite end of the toothbrush(after removing the brush) into an engineer's bench vise. Tighten the vise loosely around the flat plastic surfaces and push harder and harder toward the vise until the interior assembly slides out. (The seal at the top of the brush pushes through the "soft" rubber on the top of the brush). DO NOT TRY TO REMOVE THE ASSEMBLY BY PULLING ON THE BOTTOM COIL. THE ASSEMBLY MUST BE PUSHED OUT.
- Now that you have the interior assembly out you can pry off the battery connector strip at the bottom of the battery with a sharp knife.
- Use a soldering gun to to remove the solder on the circuit board for the upper battery strip.
- Replace the battery with a 1.5V NiMh 16.7 X 48mm cell. The original battery is made by Sanyo and is a NI-MH. I don't know the part number but Part Number: MH-4AA270-BH will fit although the diameter is slightly smaller.
- Carefully remove the remaining strip from the old battery and solder both to each end of the new battery. Positive must be on the top (with the toothbrush standing up) (USE MINIMUM HEAT AND ONLY FOR A SHORT TIME OR ELSE YOU WILL DAMAGE THE BATTERY).
- Insert the new battery and solder the top battery strip to the circuit board.
- Remove the blue top seal from the brush end of the assembly.
- Insert the assembly into the cover and replace the blue seal. Lubricate the seal with silicone or salad oil, it will make assembly easier.
- Replace the bottom cap and tighten the triangular nut.
- Charge for 12 hours before use.

NOTE, YOU HAVE TO BE SKILLED TO DO THIS JOB OR ELSE YOU WILL RUIN THE ASSEMBLY AND WASTE MONEY ON A REPLACEMENT BATTERY. If in doubt purchase a new toothbrush. Or alternatively remove the old battery first before you purchase the new battery (to make sure you don't damage anything).

I CONSIDER IT AS UNNESSARY ENVIRONMENTAL WASTE TO THROW A PERFECTLY GOOD TOOTHBRUSH IN THE TRASH AS SUGGESTED BY THE MANUFACTURER. YES ORAL-B DO TELL YOU TO RECYCLE THE BATTERY. IT MUST MAKE MANAGEMENT FEEL GOOD.

This battery replacement note is applicable to all Oral-B Triump 9400 series toothbrushes.

Built in battery "Ni. CAD "is worn out. This type of battery is still used in most toothbrushes because they're cheap. But their lives are. Limited compared with more modern batteries. Type and can not be replaced. So you need a new toothbrush.
