Switching back from Electric Shaver to Manual?

So about 5 years ago i decided to go the electric shaver route and bought one of the best (braun activator) with self cleaning. I have found that the shave is just ok, but with a manual its a true feeling of clean and it gets all the hairs. I tried recently switching back to a gillette Mach3 and it hurt quite a bit and really didnt do anything to get rid of the hair. Any reason for this? I would love to be able to use a manual shaver again for the special occasions when i need to look and feel my best....but i cant seem to shave anything off without nearly killing myself or doing nothing to my face in the way of getting hair off.

Any suggestions on how to remedy this?

Try a 5 blade by shick i think, it vibrates to raise the hairs, and 5 blades cut really close, a fantastic shave in my opinion.
I don't think electrics get nearly close enough, make sure you take a hot shower before trying to shave with a blade to soften the hair.
